Hi! My name is Michelle Walters. Like you, I’m a mom. And, like you, there was a time when I was not a mom – an era of long Saturday mornings reading the newspaper over coffee, staying out late with friends, and leisurely weekends. So much changes once we have children – the newspaper is exchanged for pop-up books, going to the theater with friends shifts to play dates at the park, and those leisurely weekends (oh, how I miss them!) are traded for swim lessons and soccer games. And even though I treat motherhood as a high calling, there are days when I miss the old me that had time to read books and ponder ideas.
This blog, “The Thinking Mom”, is a tribute to all the moms out there, who embrace their roles as mothers, yet refuse to believe that a maternal instinct and grey matter are mutually exclusive. I still love to read The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, but now I read in snippets on a Kindle in the pediatrician’s waiting room rather than in an unhurried session over breakfast. My hope is that each week’s blog post will give you a few leisurely minutes to explore ideas related to motherhood and the women that we were yesterday, are today, and will be tomorrow.
